Software Engineering
I have been programming since I was a child. Software development has been a lifelong avocation and, for the last 20 years, a paid vocation. I work primarily in Java, PHP, and Javascript, with experience writing both backend middleware as well as full-stack and mobile applications. I have worked for the University of Texas, and through Toptal, for clients such as Okta, Auth0, Sonos, Zendesk, Split, and the University of Colorado. Buddhist Philosophy, Tibetan Language, and Textual Translation
I have had a meditation practice for over twenty years. In 2018, I attended Maitripa College, where I earned an MA in Buddhist Studies. I am incredibly fortunate and grateful to have studied with numerous Buddhist teachers in the FPMT lineage (a Mahayana Buddhist organization founded by Lama Zopa Rinpoche and Lama Thubten Yeshe). And now, in India, I have also been able to study in Tibetan with Geshes (Buddhist scholars) from Drebung Loseling monastery. I have translated original works from Tibetan into English, including two pieces presented at the Tsadra Foundation Lotsawa Translation Workshop in Chicago; and a sutra translated for the 84,000 translation committee (pending publication). I recently finished the Lotsawa Rinchen Zangpo Translator Program in Dharamshala, India, and am the chief interpreter at the Shide Buddhist center in Mcleodganj. Continue reading about my Buddhist philosophy and Tibetan language studies.
Writing
I have written two novels, had a letter to the editor published on the first page of billmoyers.com, and written numerous technical blog entries for clients such as Okta, Auth0, Zendesk, and Split. See more about my writing here.
Education
I hold a BS from Rice University in Biology, where I also studied computer science post-graduation. I completed an MA in Buddhist studies and chaplaincy from Maitripa College in Portland, Oregon. I am currently finishing a two-year, intensive Tibetan language translation program in India. Read more about my education.
Photography
I began taking photographs when I moved to Colorado. This came out of my love of the mountains. I wanted to capture the beauty that I saw, to save it and present it to others. I took a lot of photos before I began to get a feel for the art. My photography continued in Alaska and other places I traveled. See a selection of my photos.
